Homemade Playdough

This recipe has been a go-to for our family for years!  Cannon can’t handle anything with gluten or artificial colors so I have pretty much always made it myself.  Here’s the best one we’ve found.  P.S….I usually triple this recipe to get a more substantial amount.

Ingredients:

-1 1/4 cups rice flour

-1/2 cup salt

-2 teaspoons cream of tartar

-1 cup water

-1 tablespoon oil (We use coconut b/c Cannon loves the smell.  You could also add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla for the same purpose.)

Process:

  1. Mix the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large pot.  Add water and oil.
  2. Cook over medium heat until the mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan.  Stir constantly!
  3. Put playdough on a clean surface.  When cool enough to handle, knead lightly.
  4. Store in an air tight container.  (FYI….This will preserve it for a time but be sure to check the play dough each time your child plays with it. It won’t last forever and will eventually get moldy.  And you get to make more!)
